Practice established 1985
Dr Michael Shera and Mrs Davida Shera established the Purga Medical Centre in 1985. It was initially a single doctor practice. It has grown to offer multiple doctors and facilities and was renamed the Flinders Peak Medical Centre.

Location
The Flinders Peak Medical Centre takes its name from Mount Flinders, the highest mountain peak in the Teviot Range of South East Queensland. Mount Flinders is the most striking feature of the local landscape and its base is just over 11 kms drive from the surgery.

Acknowledgement of Country
The practice is situated in the suburb of Purga, in the City of Ipswich. The placename Purga comes from the Yuggera / Yugarabul Aboriginal languages, in which ‘pur-pur’ means ‘meeting place’.
(Please see the Indigenous Language Resources South-East QLD Placenames, produced by the State Library of Queensland).

The Flinders Peak Medical Centre pays its respect to the First Nations peoples. The practice acknowledges the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first inhabitants of the nation and the traditional custodians of the lands where we live, learn and work.

Accreditation
The Flinders Peak Medical Centre is committed to evidence-based medicine. We were one of the first general practices in Australia to be accredited. We are currently accredited with Quality Practice Accreditation.
